ROWING
WITH THE WINNERS!
|
In
the orient, racing on boats is
an exciting sport! Groups of young
men are assigned a boat designed
to slice through water with remarkable
agility! The entire town gathers
on the water front to watch the
boats race at great speeds as
the rowers, synchronized to function
as a team, row the oars with incredible
precision, cutting through the
water, daring the winds, sweat
glistening on their sun tanned
bodies, the boats race to a tumultuous
finish! The winning team, gear
themselves for the next race tougher
than the previous!
What makes a team of winners win?
The team functions as a single
body; as a single mind; with a
single determination – to
win!
Team members know that, events,
circumstances, people outside
do not change!
Team members know that their attitude
will determine the altitude at
which their mental levels are
flying!
|
|
|
Every
team member knows that: |

|
Self
opinion (image) is important to the success
of the team! |

|
Certain
belief systems of childhood may inhibit
his performance in the team so he reprograms
his beliefs! Hence he knows how to get
out of self limiting beliefs!
|

|
He
must replace negative memories of the
past with positive memories while working
with the team! |

|
He
needs to cruise at a high level of self
confidence and programs himself to fly
high like the eagle!
|

|
He
needs to manage his upsets and ensure
that upsets do not come in the way of
his interactions with other members
of the team!
|

|
He
cannot have a short fuse or a short
temper! Hence he recognizes anger as
an emotion and works himself out of
it when he gets angry!
|

|
He
must have complete control of his every
action and must be fully responsible
for what is happening to him!
|

|
He
must never blame others and takes total
accountability on himself!
|

|
Circumstances,
people, events do not come in the way
of his contribution!
|

|
Sometimes,
he can run foul with his team mates but
will quickly know how to resolve the conflict
so that progress toward the goal is not
jeopardized! |

|
He
cannot depend on external luck for the
team to win! |

|
He
is aware that he can create his own luck
and does so for the team to win! |

|
Like
a Samurai warrior, he keeps in perspective
his personal goals and his team goals
and ensures that both are achieved! |

|
He
is aware that his own growth is concurrent
to the growth and success of the team
and aligns them together! |

|
He
sets deadline for realizing his own goals
and team goals since “goals without
deadlines are only dreams!” |

|
He
visualizes (seeing himself achieving)
team goals and personal goals and contributes
to team success from this belief! |

|
He
is clear that set backs are a part of
winning; and is not surprised with setbacks
and switches on the ‘corrective
action’ mode and continues moving
forward! |

|
He
looks forward to progress reports to know
where he is heading! |

|
He burns escape routes when progressing
toward team goals! |

|
He always speaks positive upbeat words
that lift his own and the spirits of the
other team members! |

|
He
believes in the power of ‘affirmations!’ |

|
He is always enthusiastic! |

|
He knows that being ‘assertive’
in communication will make his communication
clear; yet he will not hesitate in being
‘passive’ or ‘aggressive’
without letting others violate his rights
if he chooses to be ‘passive’
or violate the rights of others in being
‘aggressive!’ |

|
He is aware that feeling low or dejected
or both, is natural and he gets back to
feeling high at all times – he knows
that this ‘switch over’ button
is with him! He knows that he is holding
the oars of the boat for the success of
his team! |

|
He
forgives those who wronged him and apologizes
even if he is in the right! |

|
He
knows that any disease or ailment is only
a state of mind and makes changes to his
mind together with medication! |

|
He
knows that the “Teacher is ready
when the student is” and embraces
whatever life may choose to give him knowing
that it is but a only learning experience!
|

|
He is aware that he became a member of
the team of his own volition! |

|
He knows how to deal with the negativity
of other team members! |

|
He is not put off by objections –
in fact he understands them and knows
how to handle objections! |

|
He
motivates his fellow team members and
his team leader! |

|
He does not solve other team member’s
problems but helps them find their own
solutions! |

|
He ever exceeds expectations! |
